From national haulier to European freight forwarding services provider

NEUFRA Freight Forwarding was founded in 1978. From the beginning, the company’s philosophy was to concentrate exclusively on working neutrally for other hauliers, while specialising in HGV transports.

The business concept of the founders proved a success. Starting on 01.01.1979 with 5 people, the company has today developed into an internationally operating freight forwarding service provider with 400 employees, 24 branches in Germany and 3 affiliated European companies. During the 1980s, the focus lay on building up a comprehensive network of branches in former West Germany in order to meet growing demand from customers. After reunification in 1989, NEUFRA Freight Forwarding expanded into the former East Germany, setting up branches in Leipzig, Dresden, Waren and, in 2004, Erfurt. In parallel with the expansion of the German network of branches, during the 1990s NEUFRA took the strategic decision to develop into a haulier on a European level. As a result, affiliated companies were set up in Italy (Verona, Milan), Hungary (Budapest), Austria (Vienna, Linz and Bregenz) and Poland (Poznan).

It was not just the firm’s core business that flourished. Through its interest in a software, company, NEUFRA acquired the rights to specialist freight forwarding software. The firm then set up its own IT Division with the aim of continually developing the software and marketing it to other hauliers. Now, besides NEUFRA, more than 50 haulage firms work successfully with “Disped”, relying on the program’s superlatively simple logic.

On the retirement of the co-founders Herbert Holz (1990) and Jan-Hendrick Oostendorp (2001), in 2001 Sandra Hast-Herrendorf, the daughter of the co-founder Wolfgang Hast, was appointed Managing Partner. Together with the Directors Jürgen Gerwien, Frank Göltl and Peter Reindl, the two of them are leading NEUFRA Freight Forwarding into the European future.
